Outside the city there are evils, I imagine. Here, the ghosts are far more easily seen and the band plays the same song over and over. What a hell of a time to wake up from a dream. And it came as a surprise to understand but it felt so good to hold your hand, even when we heard the news. You were standing on the wall, wondering if you could talk at all. You were frozen in your shoes. And I know it seems… And I know you’re from my dreams, but I know that you wouldn’t understand. There was a time when we could fall all over each other, I was you and you were me and it was all okay. Trying to catch these running, watering colors and forget all the things that we said today. And I’m thinking it’s a funny plan and I won’t pretend to understand, just lie here for a day. I see it burning in your eyes, it’s only likely to make me cry. After we die, we stay. And I know it seems… And I know you’re from my dreams, but I know that you wouldn’t understand. And I know it seems… And I know you’re from my dreams, but I know that you wouldn’t understand.

Abbie 03:35
Abbie, you got me acting like a child now. Well, don’t you get too wild now, just try and play it cool. And Abbie, I barely even know you but there’s a lot I want to show you before you treat me like a fool. I’m so tired. Got so high I found my head set on fire, dreams of you inside my bed, so I’ll ask you one more time… Abbie, I love that jacket on your shoulders. I love your eyes because they’re older, at least enough to see me through. And honey, it’s a miracle we’re sober but if you ever grow much colder, how I’d hate to see you blue. I’m so tired. Got so high I found my head set on fire, dreams of you inside my bed, so I’ll ask you one more time…

Only You 03:56
Boy, you got big day up ahead, but you’re lying outside instead. You’ll come around, so come back down. When you think that things are going good, nothing ever ends up like it should. It’s only pain but you’re the one to blame. They always tell you things are gonna get better, but they’re not looking at the same kind of weather. It’s only you. Yeah, you worry things aren’t going right, that you’ll be alone again tonight. And so you are. A big, big star. Don’t you know they’ll never understand? They can’t see the world the way you can. You’re alright but you’re alone tonight. No one can tell you things are gonna get better, cause they’re not looking at the same kind of weather. It’s only you. No one can tell you things are gonna get better. Cause they’re not looking at the same kind of weather. It’s only you.

Never Happy 04:35
I was staring at a picture of Fiona, remembering that Mona Lisa never smiled either. She was just getting done with a shave and shower, had a date in an hour. But when the pawn hits that bullshit line. I was flying into L.A., California, thought I’d try to see Fiona. Still I thought I’d bring some pills, I was just getting done with a shave and a shower, had a date in an hour. I only ever wanted things to be just fine but now I think I’m gonna die before my time. I was thinking I should walk down to the Sunset Strip. Well, everybody’s hip there, got a lot of shit there. I was thinking I should get myself a cute alt girl. No piercings, but just maybe died hair, yeah I’d play wise like the other guys here. I only ever wanted things to be just fine but now I think I’m gonna die before my time. I only ever wanted things to be just fine but now I think I’m gonna die before my time. And all the girls were never happy. they were never happy, they were never happy. No, they were never happy, they were never happy, never happy.

Walks across the water, oceans’s daughter, keep on moving if it’s not too late. Windy sunshine, morning rain is just fine, long as nothing else gets in my way. Oh I love you, let me know you. How could we two be so close? Wish I could’ve seen her when she was greener, Now she’s falling for a different thing. Still, I know you’re listening and girl, I’m insisting That you come back to here to every… Oh I love you, let me know you. How could we two be so close? Take my hand, now let it go, feel the world fall away so slow. Everything is us and we are of everything we see. Feel the sun beat from the sky, sitting still and being high. We will never die, we’ll only cease to be. Through all this I’m happy, though you’d never have me. You’re too perfect now for it to be. Listen to your visions, make a good decision. You can sell them if they turn out. Oh I love you, let me know you. How could we two be so close?

Kid 03:52
Well, look at you, kid. Could say you were happy. Yeah it’s cool, yeah you look okay. Well you got something good and I know that you’re watching. Treat her fine and she’ll stay all day. And I know that it’s tough, just remember she’s feeling everything just the same as you. If she’s cool and she’s kind, don’t act like it’s nothing. Make her smile and she’ll sing for you. I know it’s hard trying to choose. You got a girl, you got everything to lose. Ooo, but she loves you, too. Relax, be yourself. Take your time, take it easy. You’re still young, you’ve got time to grow. You’re afraid cause you feel things a man ain’t supposed to. Tell her why, see her eyes, they know. I know it’s hard trying to choose. You got a girl, you got everything to lose. Ooo, but she loves you, too.

Wait 01:43
What’s there today? I know there’s nothing to say, but I’ll say, it all don’t matter today. Let it stay. I just say, keep me close and I’ll pay. When all I want is we stay. There’s not a think that matters anyway. Not today

Alright Now 03:21
I’ve got no reason to do anything at all. I’ve got no reasons to be anything at all. I don’t want to just sit around, hanging out. I don’t ever want to think I’ve got it all figured out. I’m alright now, you’ll have to kill me first before you tell me that I’ll be happy someday soon. Until then, just kill myself again. I’ve been thinking way too long about girls I’ve never kissed, so let’s drink to you and why you’re on the top of that list. I don’t want to give up, I don’t want to grow old, I don’t want to decide we all waste each other’s time. I’m alright now, you’ll have to kill me first before you tell me that I’ll be happy someday soon. Until then, just kill myself again. I should’ve stole my parents’ car, I should’ve taken it too far. I just don’t know anymore. I’m alright now, you’ll have to kill me first before you tell me that I’ll be happy someday soon. Until then, just kill myself again.

about

Based in Columbia, MO, The Rollups are a self-described “groovy bunch of musical goons.” On their self-titled debut, the band has recorded this goony groove for your listening pleasure. Though they certainly rock (and absolutely roll), there’s a sweetness to The Rollups’ music that is both young and timeless. Songs of youthful angst and loping rock riffs bump elbows with honey-eyed stories of unrequited love in a sound that combines collegiate romanticism and pure punk energy. The Rollups think that the kids will really “get down” and “chill out” to this record - a document of four 20-something-year-old dudes that should resonate with anyone who has ever been young and wild.

So this is their first foray into that weird world we call music. Formed in 2013, The Rollups have been playing and honing their particular brand of rawk for two years. The band is comprised of songwriter Sam Jennings on guitar and vox, Marshall Maxwell on guitar, Emmitt Wright on bass and Jon Belsheim on drums. This simple recipe lends itself effortlessly to the laid-back personality on which the band has always prided itself.

So if you happen to catch The Rollups live, be prepared for an experience that is a little psychedelic, a little vintage, and freaky fresh. While the guys take their music quite seriously, they try not to take themselves too seriously. And they hope you like it as much as they do. “Get down” to it, “chill out” to it - what have you - it’s a hell of a lot of fun.
